Dx9 updates.

Post by Syhlif32 » 23 Aug 2021, 21:45

This is an attempt to improve the look and feel of Race 07.
Fare from complete, more like a sampler.

Version 0.6 of the update, so are likley mistakes and errors.
Do read the included read_me.txt about installing!
Make sure to install to a copy of your Steam install as there are no backup files included.

The file is just under 300 Mb and meant to be copied over a Race 07 steam install.
Should also work with none steam install but have not tested.

It is a texture and material update mainly to have all objects using DX9 shaders.
Will be a little lower FPS but not much.

The files are an attempt to make Race 07 more consistent (better :D ) with Shader and material settings.
If you do not use race 07 Steam version then there are no reason to copy over the Race_Steam.exe.

Have not been using the older 06 and 07 tracks much as I found them a bit ugly looking and a lot of texture flickering.
So decided to have a go at making them better looking.

There are some texture updates, the animation characters and the 4k skies.

The 4k sky textures are credits of Gtr223 and the HD gloves are credits of Scorpyo.
Got the permissions.

Included in the upload are.
Animation. Dx9 and texture updates
Shaders. Just a few missing dx9 versions of included shaders.
4k skies. Dx9 and texture updates
A single car update F3000.
And a single track Brands Hatch 07.

Read the included Read_me.txt to see what the actual changes are.

My plan are to update all the Race 07 tracks and cars, that will take some time.

Anybody that wants to take part in this are more than welcome.
It isn’t hard just time consuming.

Hope there isn’t too many mistakes and that people will enjoy the updates.

Bjarne.

I'm spamming Andreas on RD but it seems here is the Race07 shader expert :)

Could this be much easier for globally changing shaders than hex editing

Race 07 SRPL 25 forced shaders. (0.3 beta)
Race07-forced_SRPLshaders3.jpg
Already installed Bjarne Hansen and AndreasFSC updated shader mods.
Changes are in DIFFUSE.GFX, BUMPMAP.GFX, CUBEMAP.GFX and SPECULAR.GFX

Currently Diffuse.gfx shaders are mostly for mod testing. (backup old shaders first!)
On some tracks “2 Developers” produce wrong effects only on horizon but on other tracks whole terrain areas are wrong.

Installation:
1 Player - Recommended for gameplay (with default diffuse.gfx)
2 Developers - For modders or anyone who wants to improve further Race 07

I really should have included the SRPL shaders with Race 07 upload as I do like the general effect with the L20 version.
have tried your but will just a bit busy the next couple of days.

The weird grass colors are due to the Simbin fault with 3 texure diffuse shaders.
Diffuse T1xT2T3 get to Diffuse T1T2xT3 and the other way around.
Most 2008 and 2010 base tracks got that fixed by including a bake map and change the grass shader to 4 texture shades.
Also some versions of 3DSimed limited Simbin games diffuse shaders to dx8 where the shaders works correctly.

Nice to see somebody else are interested in fiddling with shaders

Thanks

So many good tracks and so many bad areas on some tracks.
While default cars are good, Your GTR2 mod cars are too shiny.

With srpl only horizons are wrong and some trees are oversaturated.
I tried even with some mashup blinndifuse shader with gsc and srpl 30 stuff.
With custom one on Andreas Donington there are black trees on GP but not international. And when they are not black it produces flickering effect.

On the other hand some changes doesn’t produce any effect.

Pictures with analysis and comparison on rd. I hope you will find a way how to move this forward :)

Default cars are not using the srpl shaders at all as default cars in Race 07 are using a Fresnel shader.
The L25 and L30 version of the SRPL shaders are just using a multiplier to the diffuse light so things often gets overexposed or too shinny when used in Simbin games.

The black skies can be a lot of issues and can sometimes go away on restarting the game but make sure you edit outs the cloud and sky shaders from the SRPL pack as race 07 does not like those.

Finally fixed black skies and black trees!
I was using some exposition in custom shader which didn’t end well :)

SRPL calls from GFX files are more of a experiment what those changes made to game.
Some are same as default one, and others have different structure which of course produce wrong results.
Writing custom shaders is the way to go or modding the car and track with srpl shaders.
